  About the Author................

  Chapter One

Pain. Blood. Hate. That’s all that fills my veins, my nose and mind, memories evade me as my eyes pop open.

I groan as I look around, the moon glows brightly in the sky and I shiver against the cold winter air.

I stand, my limbs like jelly as I toddle around like a newborn deer. My head spins and I put my hand to it, hoping to ease some of the pain.

“Where am I?” I ask as if someone will pop up and shout got you!

No one replies and shadows follow my movements as I turn around. Trees sway in the gentle breeze and I realise I’m in some sort of woods, my mind tells me I cannot be in the woods so I run.

My heart rate picks up as I push myself harder and faster, the tree’s start to blur and I shake my head. Unsure if my sickness is making the tree’s blur, My mind tells me I’m not that fast.

A shiver racks my body and I scream out as something pushes me to the ground, an unsure feeling bubble up in my chest as I scream again.

My joints start to pop out, my eyes widen in fear and terror as my body changes into the form of a monster. White, grey and tinted red fur bursts from my skin and I shake my arm to get it off. I shout for help, the sound echoing through the woods as the wind suddenly howls.

I groan as whatever is happening slows down, the contents of my stomach empties itself and I shake myself off.

I notice that I’m shorter. I huff and realise I’m a wolf, My heart rate picks up and I close my eyes.

I’m sure this is a dream and that I’m going to wake up anytime soon, I sit down and my tail curls around me. I jump as it touches my leg.

I hear a ruffle from a brush on my right and I snarl, whatever has me captive helps to protect me.

A rabbit jumps out and I laugh, the sound that comes from me makes me jump. It’s certainly not a laugh.

I sigh which sounds like a growl before standing up and trotting along a pathway, my ears swivel around to check for danger as I walk.

A howl cuts through the woods and I freeze. Other wolves. This could mean disaster. I start to run, pushing my new form as much as I can. The steady lop of the wolf makes me smile.

A gun sounds and the bullet whips past me, my heart beat picks up as I yelp. I sprint away from the threats that follow me.

Another bullet is fired and I yelp in pain as it hits my shoulder blade. I stagger to a walk before looking behind me.

Adrenaline fills my veins and makes me unable to feel the pain of the bullet, I pick up speed again and duck my head to stop from hitting branches.

A war rages in my mind, should I just end whatever I’ve become? A bullet would do that, or should I carry on and try figure out my new life?

Another howl cuts through the air and I snarl, unsure what else to do I jump off the cliff. Hope spring into my mind as my feet hit the other side.

“There!” I hear a man shout from the side I have just jumped.

I look back and see him aiming a gun at me, the wolf takes over and we sprint away from him.

A bullet digs into the ground just next to my paw and I growl. My mind comes back to me and the wolf watches from the safe point in my mind.

“Keep going” It snarls into my mind. I nod and huff as I see light up ahead.

I focus my weary eyes on the road ahead, hoping to be somewhere safe and sleep. The need burns through my body and I find myself slowing down, fire from the bullet causes my teeth to clench.

I shake my head and pick up speed, a shed looms and I sigh as I look around. This is the only place I might be safe.

I rush into the shed and quickly scurry under a wooden beam before letting my body relax.

Shivers rack my body, my breath comes out in short pants as whatever changed me does so again. I struggle not to let the scream out that bubbles in my chest, a hiss escapes as my muzzle shortens into my human face. The fur retreats and my bones snap then reform in my human shape.

“Well that was horrifying” I mutter to thin air before curling up and pulling my arms around me to ward off the chill from lack of fur.

An old coat hangs on the door and I rush to grab it, I settle it around me before laying down.

My mind races and I struggle to stop the flow of thoughts of taking over, a noise has my head jerking up.

I back up against the wall and pray that it was nothing but the wind. A howl cuts through the air and I shiver, luckily I can tell it’s too far away to be right outside.

I shake my head and rolls my eyes, my body relaxes and I feel my eyes drop.

Sighing I curl up and let the dream world take me.

  Chapter Two

I groan and roll my body over, my arm falls over my eyes and I sigh. Yawning I shake myself and sit up. The sun filters through the poorly built shed, I look around and try to remember why I’m here or what happened.

I gingerly get up and walk around, claw marks litter the floor and my eyes widen. An unfamiliar feeling wells up inside me and I gasp as I follow the marks, they lead to where I was sleeping.

“How is that possible?” I ask myself.

“In here” A person yells from outside, I duck and look for a place to hide.

I panic when I don’t find one, shrugging I shove through the wall and it crumbles instantly.

A gunshot sounds and a snarl rips from my mouth, I shake my head and run. The only thing I know for a fact that will save my life.

My feet carry me away from the threat and into the woods, my body shivers but not from the cold. I wonder why I’m shivering but soon push the thought out of my mind.

I trip on a root and fly through the air, my back hits a tree and I groan. My dazed head spins and I close my eyes to stop it.

My body shivers again, pain ripples through me and I let out a scream as whatever is happening to me.

My joints start to pop, causing my already widened eyes to nearly pop out in fear. My face contorts into a muzzle and my screams turn to growls as silvery reddish fur bursts from my skin.

“We are the wolf” A voice in my head snar
ls, I huff before standing up.

Shaking myself I try to get my head around my new form. The wolf begs to hunt however I don’t.

“Run,” The voice says just as bullets fly around me.

I yelp and duck my head, my paws fly across the ground. I growl and push myself harder, I pant for air to fill my lungs.

I slow down once I realise I can’t hear the threat anymore, my head spins and I collapse next to a tree.

A growl escapes me as I turn back into a human, I lay on the ground panting and shivering.

I shake my head and pull my weary body up.

I sit and rock myself back and forth, praying this is a dream and that I’m going to wake up any second.

My belly grumbles, reminding me I haven’t eaten for ages. I sigh and walk towards a little town in the distance.

My head spins as I trot, my body not letting me run after all the running I’ve done. My eyes widen as I notice I’m naked.

“What the hell! How do I get out of this one?” I yelp.

I duck behind a house as a car passes, embarrassment flushes my cheeks red.

“Are you okay man? You look like crap” He whips around to face a boy no older than his 17 years.

  “I’m not sure” I admit.

“Don’t worry about it, I live just over there” The boy waves his hand and I grin slightly.

I follow the boy to his house and through the back door. I duck my head as we hurry to his room, he pulls out a bin bag and starts sifting through it.

“My mum's going to take them to the charity shop” The boy shrugs at my confused look.

He hands me a worn blue shirt with black faded jeans. I sigh as I slip them on.

“Thanks, man” I hold out my hand to shake his.

“Do you need anything else?” The boy watches me and I shake my head. I’ve already taken more from him than I should have.

  “I’m good” I shrug.

“Well you know where to find me if needed” The boy smiles and I take that as my time to leave.

“Yeah, thanks again” I lift my hand in a wave as I duck back through his house and onto the side street.

I rack my brain, however, cannot remember what happened and how I came to be here. My frown deepens as I remember being placed on a cold metal table while people stand over me with anger and fear in their eyes.

Emotions rush to my mind and I gasp as I start to remember.

I stumble down the road, cars honk at me but I remain on the road. I frown as a sob works its way into my throat.

Now is not the time for crying I remind myself as I come to a cafe, a sigh of frustration escapes me as I realise I don’t have any money.

“Great” I roll my eyes and pass the cafe, something makes my nose lift and I follow the smell towards an alleyway.

A scream meets my ears and a snarl rips from me, the beast in me surges forwards and I fight with myself to remain human.

I run around the corner and stop dead in my tracks, a gang of men surround two children. I frown as my mind registers the smell of alcohol in the air and I remind myself the beast has better smell than me.

“Let them go” I burst out before I can stop myself.

The men whip around to face me and I cringe, each one holds a blade bigger than my hand.

“Make us” A big built man sneers before rushing at me, my eyes widen as I duck on instinct.

I throw a punch and gasp as his nose breaks, blood bursts free and the leader growls. The beast within surges forwards and I feel my eyes changing colour.

“What the hell” The leaders words slur.

“Get out of here before I do something I will regret” I snarl, taking advantage of the beast to get the bullies away from the kids.

“Let’s beat it” The leader stumbles and the others rush out of the alley after him.

I huff slightly before turning to the kids, a boy huddles with a little girl. I narrow my eyes when I see tears trailing down their faces.

I approach them with relaxed muscles however my mind is as tense as it can be.

“I’m not going to hurt you” I soften my voice, the boy lifts his lips at me and I frown slightly. My nose picks up a woodsy scent and I wait for the beast to tell me what it is.

“Back off” The boy growls, taking a step towards me. I tilt my head when the beast backs down.

“What are you” I mutter to myself, however, the boys confused face tells me he heard me.

“The same as you” The little boy rolls his eyes.

“And that is?” I really, hoping this boy will tell me what is happening.

“A werewolf silly” The little girl speaks up with a giggle.

“I could’ve handled it” The boy narrows his eyes at me again and I step back with a nod.

“I’m sorry, I couldn’t stop myself” I shrug, hoping to diffuse the tension in the air. The beast’s ugly head jerks up and I shiver.

“Don’t worry about it, we shall be leaving now” The boy gently shoves the girl in the opposite direction.

“Okay” I sigh, maybe I don’t need answers anymore.

I turn and walk away, keeping my hearing pinned on the children just in case they need my help again.

I look at the sky and frown as a droplet of water lands on my nose. I run towards a bus shelter as the heavens open.

I slide down the windows and watch as the streets start to flood with all the water, people hurry around hoping to stay as dry as they can.

“What the hell am I going to do” I mutter as I run a hand long my blonde hair.

I choke down a sob, my life used to be full of family and friends and now I don’t even remember my own name. Happiness swells in my chest as I think about a family I don’t remember.

  Chapter Three

I kick a rock as I wander down a dirt track, the sun’s rays have faded long ago and I sigh as I search for somewhere to curl up and sleep.

My stomach growls and I nearly double over at the pains it causes. A growl sounds in my head and the beast tells me we need to hunt but I shake my head, hunting sounds anything but fun. Sleep sounds much better.

A shiver racks my body and the beast surges forwards, I glance into the sky and my eyes widen.

A full moon, if what the girl said is true I will be turning into the monster soon. My breath comes out in pants as I sprint towards the woods, the trees sway and it comforts the beast within.

I shake my head as I start to change into the beast, pain ripples over me and I clutch a tree.

I quickly pull off the clothes, careful not to rip them and bundle them into a makeshift backpack.

My bones crack and start to reform into the wolf’s shape. I cry out as they knit back together, my face elongates into a muzzle and my cries turn into to growl as fur ripples from my skin.

I lay on the ground, panting as the pain subsides. My eyes open and I try to frown, I didn’t even realise I had closed them.

I huff and stretch out to settle my new form, the makeshift bag proves difficult to get on my back but I bark in triumph when I get it on.

I growl as I pick up a scent of an animal nearby, the beast takes over my body and I fight the wolf as it starts the hunt.

A tuft of white fur poke out from a bush and the wolf pounces, the rabbits head shoots up and it hops away with a speed I’m not sure my wolf can reach.

The longer we hunt the more I start to enjoy it, the wolf eventually lets me back in control and it helps me as we hunt rabbits.

I huff as my filled belly rumbles in contentment. I trot towards a spot where I can sleep, I growl when I see the main road, who puts main roads in the middle of the woods? I wonder to myself.

I decide to run the road and find shelter in the other woods on the other side. I leap from the woods and land in the middle of the road, I yelp as a car skids towards me. I stand frozen as it hits my side, I’m thrown into the air and I land on my back. I yelp in pain as my body skids across the road, I feel my flesh being ripped away by the roughn
ess of the road.

I lay there, hoping that my life will end. I frown slightly and huff as instinct takes over and makes me need to get out of here.

The car stops and the driver gets out, my mind is foggy as the driver mutters something.

Someone within me tells me that if I stay here I will end up either captured or dead, my mind flashes back to the men who were hunting me and I whine.

The wolf takes over and forces me to get up, we run from the road and I collapse in the woods.

The hold of the moon releases me and I grit my teeth as my body returns back to human form.

I cry out from the wounds of the car before looking down at my body, black and purple litters my skin and I cringe. It will take ages to heal this I think to myself as I pull on my clothes.

My mind wanders to the hold the moon had over me, a frown works onto my face as I look at it. The fullness scares me and I duck my head and trot further into the woods.

I choke on a sob and remember what the little girl told me, I cannot deny it any longer. I’m a werewolf and I need to start getting control of it.

I frown and narrow my eyes as I think of the legend. I grin slightly when my mind gives me the legend I want.

I gasp as I remember the full legend, werewolves have to be bitten to turn. I gulp and look for bite marks on my body, surely it would stay as a scar or something.

I hear a chuckle in my mind and I narrow my eyes, I turn into my mind to see a wolf pacing in my mind's eye.

“What’s got you in knots” I mutter, the wolf’s head jerks up to meet my mind's eyes and I gasp. This is the wolf I turn into.

“You were not bitten” It growls at me.

“How did I become a werewolf then?” I ask into my mind, I chuckle briefly as the thought of going crazy enters my mind.

“We came together due to humans messing with stuff they shouldn’t, they made vampires and thought it would be a good idea to make werewolves to fight them. They know that werewolves exist yet they want to force humans and animals together. It will end in disaster” The wolf growls and I frown, the emotion in the wolf’s eyes makes me tilt my head.
